General Information about the CIS

Centre for International Studies (CIS) is a part of MERI Group Of Institutions, New Delhi. It is an initiative to advance the common interest between India and the international community; the enclosed brochure gives additional relevant information. CIS is establishing good contacts with prominent research/academic institutions and distinguished scholars at the global level. The Centre would follow the principles articulated in the New Education Policy of India.

It is now increasingly recognized that the importance of International Relations (IR) is multi-spectral: civilisational, historical, geopolitical and economic. And, the area invites fresh and focused studies to advance mutual interests and understanding. But awareness of and sensitivity to contemporary events are highly important in promoting India’s interests.

Global community, uniformly, displays unique warmth towards India and a desire for a significant increase in bilateral and multilateral interactions. India’s interests along with those of the global community are collectively advanced through diversification in cooperation in pied fields ranging from education and culture to high technology exchanges and enhanced business transactions. In an ever changing global environment, there is a firm need to provide professional and timely research advisories for Indian and international entrepreneurs on the new pathways and shifts in market trends in the world at large so that they can leverage global markets. CIS has been working to fill this gap.

The Centre strives to make a pioneering contribution in promoting the study of International Relations, International Business and Economic Studies, Science and Technology especially in the emerging areas of Machine learning , Artificial Intelligence etc. It aims at advancing knowledge and understanding of international affairs through theoretical and interdisciplinary lenses.

Objectives

CIS objectives include the following:
  • To establish and promote bilateral and multilateral interactions  in social, economic, cultural, political, strategic and related areas for mutual benefit;
  • To facilitate and promote exchange of scholars and other professionals;
  • To build and foster appropriate linkages with institutions by conducting joint programs and research and establishing Indian study centers across the globe;
  • To create a contemporary database of relevance to scholars and business persons;
  • To create and maintain a database of various publications and provide document translations as part of information dissemination services;

Academic Programmes:

  • Certificate and diploma programme in International Relations, Artificial intelligence and information technology.
  • Certificate and diploma programme in International Business with specialization in International Law, Economics & World Economy.

  • Each of these courses would attract interest from students all over the country and abroad.

Faculty: The backbone of CIS is its faculty, currently numbering 21 (as of Nov 2024). Faculty members of the CIS have contributed to the advancement and dissemination of knowledge in International Studies, not only through their teaching and research supervision but also by extensive publication. 

 

The CIS has been holding MERI Dialogue at national and international levels on a regular basis on important aspects of area studies and international relations.

Bilateral and Multilateral Interactions

  1. The CIS has signed  ‘Agreement on Research Cooperation’ with the number of Institutes, Universities and Centres around the world
  2. These Agreements on Research Cooperation provide that:
  • The two sides will undertake mutually agreed cooperative research in strategic studies on topics having an impact on bilateral relations or topics of common interest.
  • The research cooperation on mutually agreed topics would be promoted through various methods, including:

a) Exchange of materials in education and research, publications and academic information.

b) Collaborative research and publications.

c) Joint organization of conferences, seminars or other academic meetings.

d) Organization of exchange programs for students and faculty.

e) Joint development and delivery of courses and programs.

f) Joint fundraising activities for scholarships and grants.

g) Joint scientific guidance of doctoral students

The CIS offers research facilities for Indian and foreign scholars/students. Those who wish to join CIS as Visiting Fellows may contact the CIS office.
